Expanding the Mid-Atlantic Coastal Acidification Curriculum

Acidification varies across space and time, which is why MACAN is developing a tool for coastal stakeholders to view how vulnerable a given location is to acidification.

Ocean and Coastal Acidification Hotspots

MACAN partnered with the OA Alliance to host a workshop in September 2024 that will bring together leaders from state agencies in the Mid-Atlantic region.

During her fellowship, Nichole will investigate how changes in coastal acidification and marine parameters are contributing to the formation of favorable conditions for phytoplankton blooms in the coastal Mid-Atlantic.

Monitoring coastal and ocean acidification (COA) at the regional level can help to resolve local spatiotemporal carbonate system variability while honing in on locally important ecosystem, species, and socioeconomic impacts.
